Brooklynites still miss their Dodgers

Brooklyn Dodgers : The Ghosts of Flatbush is a heart warming look at the fans who grew up rooting for the Dodgers and whose hearts were broken when the left for Los Angeles. It explores their faith and hope in a team that either came up short in the World Series against the NY Yankee juggernaut or whose team fell to their cross town National League rivals the New York Giants in one swing of Bobby Thompson's bat. It also explores what Brooklyn was, a bourough of ethnic enclaves who came together to root for one team, and whose identity was forever linked to the great Jackie Robinson who broke the color barrier in baseball.

It also delves into the simmering feud between Robert Moses and Walter O'Malley. A feud that would eventually lead to the exit of the beloved Dodgers to Los Angeles as well as the New York Giants exit to San Francisco in 1957.

Its a touching view of fans as it shows the years fustration as every year ended with wait until next year , culminating in the magical 1955 World Series Championship and ultimately the unthinkable departure of their Dodgers in 1957.

If there is anything to dislike about it, as a former Brooklynite and New Yorker is to see the people who were responsible in Los Angeles for bringing the Dodgers there, relishing in their triumph, and mocking NY for losing not one but two teams. And perhaps they are right, that Robert Moses, the Mayor of NY and its City Council didn't see the forest for the trees.

I highly recommend this for not just Brooklyn Dodger fans but for people who love baseball.
