Caleb returns and breaks up the reunion of Angel and Buffy, ready for a battle, and Buffy slices him up. Angel catches the scent of Spike on her which leads to a major argument. The First tells Buffy that she is forever destined to fight alone, which helps her realize what must be done. Willow utilizes a spell which yields the power of the scythe to every Potential in the world, and together, the hundreds of slayers enter the hellmouth and take on thousands of Turok-Han. Sunnydale is swallowed into the hellmouth as a long and final battle ensues filled with much death, and Buffy leaves Sunnydale with other evacuated residents, only to watch Spike walk back into hell.
