why is the writer on the interrogation room?

Castle totally bugs me. I sort of liked it but then you have the writer in every aspect of the investigation including the interrogation. Is anyone allowed in the interrogation? Then when they go out with their bullet proof vests, why does the writer have "writer" on the vest? Finally, the substories: the innuendos of the sexual attraction, the every detail of the writer's life, his mother - the cool hag - and the daughter. Give me a break. I want a detective story not a mish mesh of plots and subplots involving the personal life of the participants..
