Garfield, the pasta-loving cat, sniffs trouble right from the start when he and his well-meaning but inept owner, Jon, board a cut-rate airline for a flea-bitten resort. The cranky cat is even more irritated when he discovers that Odie, Jon's innocently vapid pooch, has stowed away in their luggage.

But their misadventures begin in earnest when they rent a vintage '50s convertible to take them to the beach, and instead are taken -- by this strangely sentient automobile -- to a remote village where the natives speak pigeon English and worship hot rods, rock 'n roll, and other vestiges of the '50s. They also live in terror of the smoking volcano that looms nearby.

Garfield and Jon both fall happily in love with two of the village's residents, but their ardor is shaken when they learn about the tribe's mysterious history and the grave sacrifices it must make to appease the rumbling volcano.
