About The Show

The turbulent life of temperamental French painter Paul Gauguin and his compulsive search for creative freedom that causes him to abandon his wife and five children in Paris for contentment in Tahiti is dramatized in this lengthy, somewhat talky, but spectacularly designed and photographed movie. Gauguin's story was more memorably related by Somerset Maugham in "The Moon and Sixpence" which starred George Sanders as the artist. Emmy Awards for this version, initially called "In Search of Eden," went to production designer Wilfrid Shingleton and his art directors and set decorators in Tahiti, France and the U.S.
