Gilmore Girls

Rory meets her idol, CNN reporter Christiane Amanpour just before she gets a job as a reporter following Barack Obama's presidential campaign. But she has to start right away, meaning that she and Lorelai won't be able to go on their trip to various amusement parks. It also means that the denizens of Stars Hollow can't have the graduation reenactment party they had planned for Rory. But when Luke sees how important this is to the town, he takes it upon himself to organize the event and have it ready for the Gilmore Girls by morning, even though it's supposed to rain. The party overwhelms Lorelai and Rory, prompting Rory to make a speech thanking the town for helping her start her life. Lorelai thanks Luke with a kiss, one that rekindles their romance; Emily and Richard are downtrodden to let Rory go so soon, but relieved to learn that Lorelai will be continuing their Friday night dinners. Finally, Rory thanks her mother for giving her everything she needs to start her life, and the two women chat over coffee in Luke's diner one last time, both of their lives set to begin a new chapter. less

Emily and Richard throw Rory a graduation party, where they sing for her "You're The Top." At the same party, Logan proposes to Rory in front of all her friends and family, but she hesitates to answer. She's desperate for Lorelai's advice, but her mom feels as though she should make up her own mind. Meanwhile, Lorelai and Luke try to deal with the aftermath of her "love serenade" of him at karaoke. She insists it means nothing, only a holdover from her previous feelings, but she's not entirely certain. But Luke overhears her declaration and assumes the worst. Lorelai interprets his jilted attitude as anger towards her because she embarrassed him with the singing; Paris and Doyle go to India; and, Rory gives Logan her answer: no. So, Logan breaks up with Rory on her graduation day. less

Rory sulks in Stars Hollow following her rejection letter from the New York Times and Lorelai takes it upon herself to cheer up her daughter. Meanwhile, Luke and April's boat trip is canceled; Lane realizes she has to stay home and care for the babies instead of go out on tour; Lorelai notices that Luke's wearing the hat she got him and winds up singing to him a karaoke version of "I Will Always Love You," though she was initially only doing so for Rory's sake; and, Logan comes from California to ask Lorelai's permission to propose to Rory. less

Luke and Lorelai start spending more time together, but it is tense and awkward, though Lorelai takes that as a good sign. Meanwhile, Paris receives acceptance letters from practically ever medical and law school she applied to, while Rory receives a shocking rejection letter from the New York Times. less
