Location wrong, but a great watch

All my life I heard about the feud, being from mountains of Kentucky, but I didn't realize the full impact until I watched the series. I know a lot of people were turned off by the blood, gore and language but there is nothing glamorous about war in any form. That is the way it was. The language was raw but never heard the "f" word mentioned the way it is used in films of today, a plus to me in itself. The way way the actors talked...that is the way our ancestors talked. Ever sat down and read Abraham Lincoln' s Gettysburgh Address? It sounds archaeic now. This supposedly was right after the Civil War and it was masterfully done, gritty, almost starving circumstances of which I cannot imagine how so many survived. The faces, young and old, seemed tired, old, gaunt beyond their years having gone through a four year war that seemed useless only to return to what was left of their homes and to to many, nothing.
I noticed right away the trees and location were OFF. The only place in Kentucky there are trees as tall as the ones in the series is the National Forest site near Whitesburg , Kentucky and they wouldn't let them shoot there so I guess they had to find a suitable location. I loved Randall McCoy's wife, she was a powerful actress in this role. Costner and Paxon were brilliant as the two patriarch's of the families.
I gave this five stars and although I haven't resided in the mountains in years, I still enjoyed the mini-series and applaud the History Channel for bringing a film of this category to the channel. Well done!!!
