Lone Star: A Television History of Texas

Larry Hagman hosts an eight-part series that takes viewers on a tour through Texas history, cutting through the myths and legends. "Living the Legend" (Part One) examines the Texas mystique; "A Land Untamed" (Part Two) describes the Indian Tribe antecedents of the Spanish, the role of the most northern province of the Spanish new world empire, and the prevailing Spanish influence in today's Texas; "A New Republic" (Part Three) chronicles the events leading to the ten-year era of the Lone Star Republic.

In "The Twenty-Eighth State" (Part Four), Texas gains statehood and, fifteen years later, joins the Confederacy; "Cowboys" (Part Five) examines the myths, legends, and realities of the Texas cowboy; "Oil Boom" (Part Six) chronicles Texas's entry into the era of oil; "Politics--Texas Style" (Part Seven) looks at prominent politicians of Texas, including Lyndon Baines Johnson; "Armadillos and Pigskins" (Part Eight) examines the current cultural synthesis.
