End, Part 2
Episode 18, Season 6| Length: 1:00:00| Air Date: 05-23-2010In a battle over who will take control of the heart of the island, Locke claims he can sink the island and get away while Jack swears he'll kill him first. Knowing Desmond is the key, they lower him into the source of the light, where his actions extinguish the glow and trigger a series of earthquakes that knock him unconscious and seem destined to destroy the island. No longer invincible, Locke tries to escape only to have Jack catch up to him and push him off a cliff, but not before Locke manages to stab him. Elsewhere on the island, Miles is reunited with Richard Alpert and Frank Lapidus who informs them he can he can fly them away on the plane. They have to move quickly, though, since the island is shaking so hard, it's falling apart. When the others hear of this, Kate tries convincing Jack to join them, but he insists he must reverse what Desmond did. While Kate, Sawyer and Claire race for the plane and catch it just before it takes off, Hurley and Ben accompany Jack back to the heart of the island. There, Jack anoints Hurley keeper of the island before Hurley and Ben lower him down the shaft. Jack arranges for Desmond's rescue and manages to return the island to normal but is too injured to get himself out. Aboveground, Hurley is left with the sobering thought that Jack sacrificed himself for everyone else and he is now in charge. In the flash sideways, everybody is starting to realize his or her true purpose. Hurley and Desmond do their part rounding up everyone; Sun and Jin remember their travails on the island; Sawyer and Juliet meet, seemingly for the first time, then recall their love; Sayid is reunited with Shannon and Charlie with Claire. John Locke awakens from surgery, finds himself completely healed. Jack is the only one who refuses to accept the meaning of the flashbacks. Jack runs into Kate who leads him to a church where she encourages him to join her and the others inside when he's ready. There, he encounters his father, who explains that Jack has passed away, as has all his island compatriots. The sideways world is a way station that allows them to remember and connect with the people who meant the most to them. Now that they've all found each other once again, it's time to let go and move on. Jack joyously reunites with every significant figure he knew on the island, whereupon Christian opens the double doors of the nave, flooding the space with light. Back on the island, a mortally wounded Jack emerges from the heart of the island, stumbles through the bamboo forest and finally collapses onto his back. He watches his friends fly away on the plane before his eyes close. less

What They Died For
Episode 16, Season 6| Length: 1:00:00| Air Date: 05-18-2010In a sideways flash, Jack gets a call from Oceanic saying his father's missing coffin has been found, however, it is actually Desmond on the line. Desmond is back at Locke's school and watching him get out of his van when Linus appears. Linus threatens to turn him in for running down Locke, but Desmond attacks him, punching Linus repeatedly in the face. Desmond says he is not there to hurt Locke, but to set him free. Linus believes him and conveys this information to Locke, who is stunned. Locke takes this as a sign to go and visit Jack and accept his help to perhaps walk again. Desmond then shows up at a police station and turns himself in to Sawyer and Miles. To his delight, Desmond is placed in a holding cell between Sayid and Kate. The three are placed in a van to be taken to county jail when Desmond asks if they'd like to leave. Naturally they do, and they promise to trust Desmond and do what he asks. The van comes to a halt and Ana Lucia opens the doors. Hurley pays her off and provides the transportation and he leaves with Sayid, while Desmond informs Kate that they will be attending a concert together. Back on the island, Jack stitches up Kate's wounds and she is angry. They agree they have to kill Locke. They set off with Hurley and Sawyer to find Desmond. Elsewhere on the island, Ben, Miles, and Richard trek through the jungle. They reach the barracks where they fetch some C4 to blow up the plane. However, Zoe and Widmore are in the kitchen. Widmore says he is their last chance of survival and has already rigged the plane with explosives. Zoe notifies them that Locke is approaching and Widmore says they need to hide. In the other group, Hurley is trailing behind when he sees Jacob. He asks Hurley for Ilana's ashes. Jacob puts them in a campfire and says he will be gone by the time it burns out, so Hurley better go get his friends quick. Hurley leads Jack, Kate, and Sawyer to Jacob. Kate is angry and wants to be sure Sun and Jin didn't die for nothing. Jacob is apologetic and he'll explain why he brought them here because they need to know how to protect the island. By the time the fire goes out, one of them has to take his place as protector. Jacob brought them to the island due to his own mistake: he is responsible for the monster and everyone they've ever cared about is in danger. Jacob chose the group because they are flawed and alone. They needed the island as much as it needed them. One of them now must protect the light in the heart of the island from the monster. Jack volunteers because it is what he was meant to do. Jacob explains where the light is and performs the ceremony which converts Jack into the protector. At the barracks, Widmore and Zoe hide from Locke, but Linus and Richard want to try and speak with him. Linus gives Miles a walkie talkie and says he'll call if he needs him. Miles leaves and Linus and Richard head out to meet Locke. Suddenly, the smoke monster barrels in and sweeps Richard through the air, knocking him into the jungle. Locke then approaches Linus and says he can have the island to himself if Linus will kill some people for him. Ben quickly agrees and gives up Widmore in a heartbeat. Locke finds Widmore and Zoe and he slits her throat. He promises Widmore that he will kill his daughter if Widmore doesn't tell him what he wants to know. Widmore explains he captured Desmond due to his resistance to electromagnetism. Out of nowhere, Linus executes Widmore because he doesn't deserve the chance to save his daughter. Later, Locke and Linus walk through the jungle and find the well where Desmond's body is supposed to be. They see a rope someone used to help Desmond out. Locke tells Linus that Desmond is Jacob's last resort if all the candidates die. Locke vows to track Desmond down and finish what he has never been able to do: destroy the island. less

Across the Sea
Episode 15, Season 6| Length: 1:00:00| Air Date: 05-11-2010In a flashback, a very pregnant Claudia washes up on the shore of the island. She goes into labor and a woman, Mother, helps her give birth. She names her baby Jacob, but to her surprise, she's having twins. Before she can hold her newborn babies, Mother bludgeons Claudia to death so she can raise them herself. Thirteen years later, the Boy in Black and Jacob have been told that the island is the only place on Earth and they are alone with Mother. However, while out boar hunting, the boys happen upon other people on the island. Mother tells them that they are dangerous and should be avoided. She takes them to the heart of the island where a pure light emanates from a hole in the ground. Mother warns that the men will try and steal this light that exists in everyone and the light will go out everywhere if they try. She tells her boys that one of them will eventually have to continue on protecting the light because she won't be able to do it forever. Later on, Claudia appears to the Boy in Black and tells him that she is his real mother and the other people on the island are shipwrecked there and looking for a way off. The Boy in Black resolves to join up with the others on the island and escape, much to Jacob's and Mother's dismay. Jump to 30 years later, Jacob observes the Man in Black and his people digging holes on the island in order to find a way to leave. Mother visits the Man in Black and he explains to her that he has finally found that light she showed him 30 years prior and he is going to leave the island. To prevent his escape, Mother knocks the Man in Black unconscious and massacres all of his people. Then, Mother makes Jacob the protector of the island. She takes him to the light and explains that it is the source of life, death, and rebirth, but he must never go in because it would be worse than death. Later, the Man in Black wakes up and finds his escape project destroyed and his people slain, so he finds Mother and kills her. Jacob comes upon the Man in Black over their mother's body and Jacob tackles him. Jacob drags him to the heart of the island and throws the Man in Black down inside, which births the Smoke Monster. The Man in Black's body reemerges and Jacob places him with their mother. These are the skeletons that Jack, Kate, and Locke discovered and they dubbed "Adam & Eve." less

Candidate
Episode 14, Season 6| Length: 1:00:00| Air Date: 05-04-2010In a sideways flash, Locke awakens from surgery and sees his surgeon, Jack. Jack tells him that he is a candidate for a new surgery that may be able to repair his original spinal injury; however, Locke declines and won't tell Jack why. Jack tracks down who was in the original accident with Locke and it was his father, Anthony Cooper, who is now paralyzed from the neck down and unable to speak. Locke and Jack meet again and Locke reveals he was flying a plane that crashed. He only had his pilot's license for a week and it was his fault that he and his father were injured. Jack tells him he needs to let it go and forgive himself, but Locke just can't do it. Back on the island, Widmore has everyone held in cages except for Jack, Sayid, and Locke. Locke asks Jack to trust him and they head in to free them all. The smoke monster descends on Widmore's team and kills many of them. Jack frees Sawyer, Jin, Sun, Lapidus, Kate, Hurley, and Claire. They meet Locke at the plane and he tells them it has been rigged with C4 and they need to take the sub. Suspicious, Sawyer tells Jack to make sure Locke does not get in the sub with them. After Sawyer and a few others take the sub over, Jack catches Locke off guard and shoves him in the water. They all board except for Claire, who is fighting off Widmore's remaining team. She is distraught that the group left her and Locke behind. Locke reassures her and says she does not want to be on that vessel. In the sub, Jack searches for a first aid kit, but finds a big surprise-- the explosives from the plane. Panicked, Sawyer wants to remove the wires, but Jack concludes that nothing will happen if they leave the bomb alone. He figures out that Locke needs them all dead, but he can't actually kill them. If they remove the wires, they'll be killing themselves. Sawyer doesn't buy it and pulls the wires, which drastically speeds up the countdown. In an act of self sacrifice, Sayid tells them to find Desmond and then runs with the bomb down another corridor. It explodes and water comes rushing in through the hull, but everyone is alive. However, Sun is trapped under a cabinet. Hurley takes Kate with an oxygen tank and they escape. Jack and Jin try to free Sun to no avail. Jack leaves with Sawyer and another oxygen tank and Jin remains by Sun's side as the water rises. Jack, Hurley, Kate, and an unconscious Sawyer make it to the beach, emotionally and physically drained. On Hydra island, Locke looks on at the main island, angry and determined. less
