In the wake of the hydrogen bomb explosion, Jack and his group are on the island, but not in 1977. Sawyer is furious that Jack's plan didn't work and that they didn't change anything . They dig a gravely injured Juliet out of the debris before Jacob emerges from the jungle and tells Hurley he must take Sayid to the Temple and save him. Meanwhile, at the beach, a confrontation arises between Ben and Locke, revealing Locke to be something other than he appears. In an alternate reality, Flight 815 makes it through the turbulence unscathed and all of the passengers are strangers to one another. The island seems to be submerged underwater in this reality. Shape of Things to Come

Episode 9, Season 4| Length: 1:00:00| Air Date: 04-24-2008
Jack is taking pills for a stomach-ache when a body washes up on shore at the beach with his throat slit. Faraday confirms that it is the doctor from the freighter. Alex, who has been captured by some soldiers, is instructed to turn off the island's fence. In the barracks, the phone rings with an alert that this has happened. Ben flash-forwards to the Sahara Desert, where he wakes up shaking and nauseous in a Dharma uniform. When approached by two men with guns, he quickly disarms them and steals their horse. Back in the barracks, Ben instructs everyone to barricade themselves in his house, but Sawyer insists on getting Claire first. While looking for her, machine gun fire breaks out and Claire's house explodes after being hit by a rocket launcher. Flash forward again, Ben is in Tunisia booking a hotel room when he sees Sayid on the news asking the press to leave him alone so he can just bury his wife. Back on the island, Sawyer finds Claire alive under the rubble and takes her to Ben's place. Miles arrives claiming that his shipmates want to talk to Ben. Flash to Iraq, where Ben is on a roof taking photos of a mysterious man and Sayid at Nadia's funeral. Sayid sees him and confronts him angrily. Ben tells Sayid that one of Widmore's men killed Nadia. Back in the barracks, Miles informs Ben that Alex is being held hostage. Ben picks up the walkie talkie and speaks to Keamy, who is standing outside with a gun to Alex's head. Keamy tries to get Ben to surrender. When Ben won't cooperate, Keamy shoots Alex in cold blood. Shocked and upset, Ben runs to a secret door in his house. Flash to Iraq, where Ben is chasing Nadia's killer. After catching up to him, Ben tells him he needs to get a message to Charles Widmore. Before he can tell him, Sayid shoots the man. Sayid tells Ben he wants to work for Ben and bring war against the people who killed Nadia. Ben agrees, and looks pleased. Back on the island, Ben comes out of his secret door and tells everyone it's time to run. Suddenly, the smoke monster appears in full force, killing the freighter soldiers. Back on the beach, Faraday sends a signal in Morse Code to the freighter asking what happened to the doctor. He claims that the response indicated that the helicopter is on its way, but Bernard, who knows Morse Code, tells everyone that the message actually said that the doctor is fine. Jack demands to know if rescue was ever part of the plan. Just as Faraday admits it wasn't, Jack doubles over in stomach pain. Outside the barracks, Locke is angry that Ben lied about his knowledge of the smoke monster. Ben says that Locke can talk to Jacob about it. Sawyer wants to take everyone else back to the beach, but Locke and Ben won't let Hurley go with him. They need Hurley to help them find Jacob and, after a Mexican standoff, Hurley agrees to go. In a flash, Ben is in London breaking into Charles Widmore's penthouse suite. Charles wonders if Ben has come to kill him, but Ben claims that he is unable to do that. He's there to confront Widmore about the murder of Alex and for changing the "rules." To get revenge, Ben says that he's going to kill Widmore's daughter, Penny. Widmore claims that the island is his and he intends to get it back, but Ben says that he has no chance of ever finding it. less

About The Show

After their airplane crashes in the Pacific, 48 disparate survivors are forced to adapt to life on a deserted island. As they get to know each other, some become friends, others enemies and some stories remain to be told. Each survivor seems to harbor their own secrets and dark pasts and confront their own personal demons on the island. the main group consists of Jack, the doctor and de facto leader; Kate, the beautiful escaped convict; Hurley, big man with the warm heart; Charlie, has-been rock star dealing with a heroin habit; Sayid, Former Iraqi Republican Guard communications expert; Jin and Sun, a Korean couple with cultural boundaries; Sawyer, red neck loose cannon, Michael and his son Walt, who never really knew each other until the crash; Locke, mysteriously healed of his need for a wheel chair and seems to understand some secrets of the island; Spoiled brat Shannon and her more giving brother Boone; and Claire, a young and very pregnant woman who struggles bringing her child into life as a castaway. The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must work together against the cruel weather and harsh terrain if they want to stay alive. But the island holds many secrets, including the intense howls of the mysterious creatures stalking the jungle, which fill them all with fear. Fortunately, thanks to the calm leadership of quick-thinking Jack and levelheaded Kate, they have hope. But even heroes have secrets, as the survivors will come to learn. Through flashbacks of individual characters, the lives they led prior to the crash informs about how they got to the island as well as who they are as individuals. Season 2 gave more insight about the Island, the mysterious hatch, and the Others. The survivors unite with the survivors of the tail section of the plane that landed on the other side of the Island and continue to find that somehow they may all be interconnected. Season 3 picked up with Jack, Sawyer and Kate in captivity with the Others. More is revealed about them and their purpose on the Island and how they got there, specifically their leader Ben who has a tenuous connection to the Island, as well as Juliet, originally Jack's captor, but eventually reveals her agenda doesn't line up as closely with her comrades. The season closes with the Survivors potentially on the verge of rescue, Ben having lost control of his people and the island and back in captivity with Jack, Juliet joining the ranks of the crash survivors and a mysterious glimpse into the possible future of Jack and Kate and perhaps the other survivors as well. Season 4 began with the arrival of a freighter. The survivors became divided - the people who wanted to meet the rescuers, led by Jack and Kate, and the people who want to heed Charlie's warning and stay away from them, led by Locke. Four new people arrived on the island from the freighter, but rescuing the passengers of Flight 815 was not their primary objective. Season 5 began with Jack and Ben attempting to gather the Oceanic six in order to return to the island. On the island itself, after Ben moves it, the remaining people experience strange shifts in time. Locke ends up trying to stop the massive shifts in time and actually dies, though he's seemingly resurrected and solidifies himself as the leader of the Others, perpetuating the rift between people on the island.
