Two maverick surgeons, Dr. Robert Dalgety and Dr. Bruce Kellerman, buck the system of the San Fransico based HMO hospital they work for. Surrounded by corporate shills whose main concern is money, these doctors will break any rule interfering with their ability to serve their patients. The staff ranges from the new adminstrator who used to run a theme park and gets queasy at the sight of most medical procedures; a play-by-the-rules female doctor who is the object of Kellerman's affections; Nurse Poole whose focus is on profit over patient; a young assistant administrator and a naive new intern round out the team.
