Too Real for TV Viewers?

My So-Called Life was an excellent show, and is one of the greatest casualties of television history. To this day, I do not know why it failed, but my strongest belief is because middle America wasn't ready to see what high school was really like in the mid-90's. I was in high school at that time, and believe me, this show was accurate. Also, the characters, acting, themes, etc, were all top-notch. What a shame it couldn't have at least lasted a few seasons. I have owned the dvd of the series for years, and I remember when it shown on MTV. It definitely was quality television way above the norm.
