I don't ever recall seeing any other movie re: this arsonist. However, I remember this man very well: he attempted very early one morning to set my Seattle rented house on fire (ran away when I came out to go to work), and then succeeded about 3 weeks later. I was the only one home, thank GOD my neighbor was doing yardwork and saw the smoke. House was saved, determined arson and eventually determined that HE was the arsonist. Home saved? Yes, but not my sanity until he was caught. MO was the same, only the second time it was in broad daylight. Movie correctly depicted this: the sheer terror we all felt in a tri-county area, hosing our homes down with water before nightfall, checking our streets at 2 AM, etc. But, I don't believe he only worked at night, not at all. The church he set on fire? Probably 10 miles away, a different county, that was right by my home in Lynnwood. NO I DO NOT BELIEVE HE WAS "AFTER" ME! It was a crapshoot, he could hit your house or the house across the street.
This movie was very suspenseful for me to watch (first time all the way thru last night). My heart went out to his family back then and then again last night with their struggle to help their son do the 'right' thing, considering he killed so many and could have killed me and/or the family I lived with as well.
My thoughts on the movie? Excellent, but no movie can truly capture our true fear at the time in that area until he was caught. The only other movie that could have captured that kind of fear was the one about the "Night Stalker" murderer in California before this guy started setting fires in Washington.
May those deceased rest in peace. May we all get over our fear and paranoia of unknown people in our neighborhoods, and may he spend his life in jail for the rest of his life. And that is the ONLY 'good' thing I can say for him... anything else is NOT the way a Christian would talk and I am truly biting my tongue on this right now.
