Parenthood shows the problems that ordinary people encounter in their lives. The writers see no need to rely on car chases, lurid sex scenes, or violent murders to create excitement. Kudos! The suspense comes from wondering how the characters will deal with such problems as rebellious teens, handicapped children, getting along with bosses at work, an addict ex-spouse, knowing when to follow advice and when to ignore it. I hope the plots continue to steer clear of sensationalism. - appreciative fan
