Top notch, realistic family drama

This is an entertaining and quality way for any and all to spend an hour of weekly TV viewing. My husband and I have watched it from the beginning, and our young teenage daughter is now hooked on it too. It was well-conceived and cast from the start, and it is consistently very well written from one episode to the next.
All the multi-generational members of the central Braverman clan are very relateable characters whom anyone will recognize in themselves or their own parents, spouses, kids and grandparents. Every one of the actors, from the seniors down to the youngest kids, are refreshingly good at portraying present- day, realistic, imperfect human beings, who relate to one another in interestingly imperfect ways. There are real, varied emotions expressed here, and the characters deal with the same kinds of dilemmas we all have faced or most likely will face sometime in our lives. However sometimes quirky, the humor feels genuine, and even when occasionally badly shaken, the family relationships are nevertheless solid.
I have to say, too that many of the guest actors, whether sporadically present or there for ongoing story arcs, are exceptional. Jasmine's mom, Haddie's (former) boyfriend, Sarah's (now) fiance`, Amber and Drew's dad, and now Sarah's new boss (played so well by Ray Romano) are all stand-outs. Through their portrayals, these actors have all enriched the great story lines that the writers have created.
I can't say enough good about this show. If there's any justice in TV land, this show should stay on the air for several more high-quality seasons. NBC are you listening?
