SNL: the old reliable Saturday Night Let Down

star33

Been watching it since its debut in 1975 (was at a friends house doing whippets & looking at his stepdad's Playboy mag collection that nite) & it is getting too disappointing to watch..except for Melissa McCarthy's phenomenal performance in October (youtube it!). Election year=GASP! look forward to the show opening EVERY single week with YET ANOTHER instantly dated & never funny political parody..do they have a computer program that spits this formulaic tripe out? NO MORE POLITICAL IMPRESSIONS PLEASE! Then 5 solid ENDLESS minutes of credits..with the 25 people on the show of which you will see maybe 6. Skip the first 15 mins of show! Musical guests must pay promotional fee to get on since the perfs are never rewatchable..guess there arent any good or exciting artists available on Earth these days. They almost always recycle at least one old bit for Nth time. Kristin Wiig is in way too many skits & gotten nonbrilliant in most (sorry girl but you need good material). Some of the 'minor' people are good & WAY underused=same cast members flogged to death. Seth=your snarky act & delivery is past its expiration date=time to give up the seat already pal. And please NO guest stars who are not comedic actors..regardless of the movie/tv/plugola tieins. Someone like Charles Barkley has as much stage/comedian/improv talent as Wiig has footbal playing talent=keep him off the stage. Was he decent?=DOZENS of people wouldve been BETTER. This is a live comedy entertainment show people=not a paid advertisement. So trim the staff..limit political crap severely..stop recycling old skits already & field only EXCITING music acts & actual comedic actors for hosts. But will you listen? prob not=writing/writers cost $$ & ratings (which=$$) have long taken over the edge except rarely. The name exists but SNL is not the same lately, sigh. But I will hold out hope. Maybe Lorne Michaels will pass the baton he's been phoning in for years while he counts the millions he makes per second while it is on (& we are groaning). At least it IS live.
