I'm not 100% clear how ratings work for those that participate, but its unfortunate that NBC put such a great show in such a horrible time slot. For those of us that have to go to work the next day - who has time to watch a live show live from 10 - 11 PM?!
I make it a point to DVR it and watch it later in the week. But from what I understand that wouldn't count towards the shows ratings (for those who have one of those meters).
On Sunday night as your weekend is coming to a close and the reality of having to go back to work on Monday sets in, it's shows like SMASH that make the end of the weekend not seem so bad.
It seems like they could get a more accurate measure of a show's audience if they had a brief message just prior to the show that said to visit the NBC website if you don't want this show canceled so that those that do not part of the Neilson sample group will also have a voice - I'm sure that's would be pretty cost effective for NBC too. If they had this survey accessible on a mobile version of their website that would be even better so people don't even have to leave their couch!
