this particular suburb seems more like a place in Southern California (maybe Orange County), Florida or Texas than it does New York. It is way too over the top and unsophisticated for New York. Someone wasn't thinking things through and everyone I know who watched the first episode had the same feeling. It throws everything off. The dialogue is not great, the relationship between father and daughter is awkward and doesn't ring true even without a mother figure. The only sweet moment comes with the girl across the street when you see that there is a possibility of real friendship there. That is what I might tune in again for. Cheryl Hines is good in the role but again, it seems way out of place for New York and so does all that pink. The lawn watering is straight out of Steve Martin's LA Story where you see everyone out in the bathrobes getting the newspaper. I was hoping for better, this just seems like something to tune out with until completely bored.
