"The Cosby Show" smashed stereotypes and ratings expectations by presenting the first affluent, educated African-American family in prime-time television history. The unexpected success of the show, however, led by creator, executive producer and lead actor Bill Cosby, proved to be difficult for the young, then-virtually unknown cast.
