Professor George Challenger is in search of a lost world where it is rumored that dinosaurs still walk the earth. Accompanying Professor Challenger on the expedition is The Daily Gazette cup-reporter Edward Malone; womanizing aristocrat Lord Roxton; and cynical paleontologist Professor Leo Summerlee. Once in Brazil, the team is joined by the youthful and innocent Agnes Kerr. Raised in the Amazon by her missionary uncle, the Reverend Theo Kerr, Agnes possesses a knowledge of the jungle and herbal medicines that earns her a place on the team.
