The Time Team heads to the site of Fort James, near Mitchell, South Dakota, to excavate any surviving sections of the only stone frontier fort. After the geophysicists scan the ground and analyze the data compared to the original plans for the fort, the excavators learn about how stone for the fort was quarried. Historical reenactors demonstrate military customs of the mid 19th century for the team. The results of the excavation are significant: New dimensions for the fort are discovered and many artifacts unearthed.
