About The Show
Blamed by her in-laws for the tragic death of her husband, Honey Bailey finds herself penniless and homeless. She is forced to leave her sons, Hub, age 12, and Fat, age 10, with their wealthy and controlling grandmother, in the mining town of New Bedford, in order to find a job in the city. Her infant daughter Violet is sent to live with distant relatives.
At the Bailey manion, the boys try to cope with their new life, battling their grandmother on every front. Both boys are determined to get their mother back at any cost. Grandmother Bailey's sharp edges are slowly worn down by Hub and Fat's innocent determination. Honey's return to New Bedford is finally permitted when Hub and Fat force their grandmother to relinquish her anger and pride. Strengthened by an indomitable spirit, Honey is finally forced to accept a job at the Bailey mine. In the small confines of New Bedford and her mother-in-law's claustrophobic home, she finds herself attracted to the local athletics teacher, Max Sutton, and he to her.
