When we sat down to identify the most shocking TV moments of 2007 we couldn't stop tossing around various scenes from "Damages." Out of respect for the majority of you who missed it the first time around (the DVD comes out in January and we HIGHLY recommend it), we'll keep this entry vague, but it went something like this… What about the ending of the first episode with the dog collar? Oh yeah, well how about when you find out the one dude is a cop? Don't forget when [name omitted] committed suicide right in her office. No way, it was totally when Ted Danson made that phone call from the limo. At first we thought those furry little creatures known as Meerkats were all alike. But only a few episodes into this animal docu-drama it became clear that each member of "Meerkat Manor" had his or her own personality traits, habits, friends, and enemies. Still, none of the Meerkats stood out more than Flower, the matriarch of the Whiskers family. So it was with great shock and sadness that we watched as the fearless Flower was killed by a venomous snake. Right smack in the middle of what became known as the "cursed" season of "Dancing with the Stars," Marie Osmond literally hit the dance floor in a way no star had done before. While listening to the judges' critiques, Marie's chest heaved, her eyes fluttered, her body went limp, and she slid like a sack of potatoes through the arms of her dance partner, Jonathan Roberts, fainting to the floor. Host Tom Bergeron knelt next to her, then quickly sent us to commercial. When the show returned, Tom reassured everyone that all was fine and told us Marie's official first words were "Oh, crap." Season 3 of "Battlestar Galactica" definitely had its ebbs and flows (was it just us or was Baltar’s trial a bit anti-climactic?), but the final few episodes gave us the BSG we know and love – dark, gritty and gut-wrenchingly good. We remember thinking the strange buzzing/humming that some of the characters were hearing in the final episodes was a bit strange, but little did we know it would culminate with the four characters (Chief Tyrol, Colonel Tigh, Tory and Anders) coming together and realizing that they are in fact CYLONS! Cylon-hating/Adama’s right-hand man, Tigh, a Cylon?? The President’s chief advisor (Tory) too? Starbuck’s husband (Anders)? And the religious-raised Chief? Back in 2006, "The View" lost one of its co-hosts, Meredith Vieira, to the "Today" show. To replace Vieira, Barbara Walters brought on Rosie O'Donnell. Everyone expected that O'Donnell would be a unique addition to the cast, but the only thing she really added to the show was DRAMA. The most buzzed about fallout was O'Donnell's feud with Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The two women constantly found themselves in heated arguments and things got personal one morning when O'Donnell called Hasselbeck cowardly. In a reality show known for hyperbole, (how could every week have “the most dramatic rose ceremony EVER”) the final episode of "Bachelor" Brad Womack’s season was indeed a shocker. The Texan self-made millionaire appeared to be there for the right reasons, and it seemed as if he was destined to propose to either Deanna or Jenni in the finale. To the nation’s surprise, however, he ended up dismissing not only Jenni, but Deanna as well, and walked away with the ring in his pocket and the final rose still on the pedestal. Was he in it for the right reasons? Had he fallen for previously cast-off bachelorette Bettina? We’ll probably never know, but one thing’s for sure. Yes, Season 3 had a slow start. And yes, we hated the Others' infestation into the main storyline of our beloved "Lost" just as much as you did. But then, mercifully, fans were brought back to the beach and back into the lives of our favorite supporting characters. From there each subsequent episode delivered on the moments we've all come to expect from the show. But we absolutely have to give it up for the shocking final reveal of the season -- the flashback of the episode was actually a flash forward, showing us a future where Jack and Kate have successfully made it off of the island, and apparently, it's not working out so well for the good doctor. Touted as Britney's comeback performance, the tabloid-friendly pop princess fell further from grace when she appeared on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards in Sin City on the night of September 9th. Ms. Spears opened the VMAs looking beyond sloppy. Her (now infamous) performance was lackluster, awkward, and a bit uncomfortable for viewers. It was, quite possibly, the most anticipated series finale in television history. The HBO mob drama, "The Sopranos," one of the most acclaimed shows of all time, was ending after six seasons and EVERYONE was speculating on how it would go down. Would Tony get whacked? Would Carmela take over as Mob boss? Or would it end on a crazier note? Maybe Adriana was still alive and would help the feds take down the whole family? When the series finale finally arrived, and we were down to the final minutes, our hearts were pounding and our palms were sweating. Tony, Carmela and A.J. sat in a restaurant booth snacking on onion rings and listening to Journey on the mini-jukebox as the camera cut to suspicious faces all around them. Then, as Meadow raced inside, we could feel it — something big was about to happen. And then... and then... the picture cut out and all that was left was a silent black screen! What? Viewers from coast to coast banged on their TV sets, called their cable companies, and scratched their heads until we all had to face the truth… there was no technical glitch. It was exactly how creator David Chase meant for the series to end. So what happened? Theories abound. Maybe Tony was killed? Did Meadow end up in the line of fire? Or had Chase whacked us, the voyeuristic viewers? Like the location of Jimmy Hoffa’s body, what actually played out on the other side of that black screen will go down as one of the greatest Mob mysteries of all time. We’ll. Never.
