Sonya Walger

A patrician blonde with a sexy gleam in her eyes, Sonya Walger made her first major impression as part of the sexed-up sextet at the core of NBC’s adaptation of the hit BBC comedy “Coupling.”

Walger was born to a British mother and Argentine father and raised in London, where she studied English literature at Oxford University, performing in student plays in her spare time. After getting an agent while still at Oxford, she went on to work in regional theaters for two years before launching into British film and television. She first met American stand-up comedian-turned-writer-director Mike Binder in London where he cast her as a nun opposite himself, Alan Rickman and Janeane Garofalo in his Woody Allen-esque movie “The Search for John Gissing" (2001). In the U.S. Walger first become known for her role as Donna Barnes in Binder's HBO series “The Mind of the Married Man” (2001-2003), in which she starred as the shocking beautiful wife of the star and series creator (Binder's constantly straying thoughts with such a comely companion as Walger at his side made the show's central conceit difficult to swallow).

Walger's biggest exposure to American audiences came in 2003 when she was cast in the U.S. version of "Coupling," which was highly touted as NBC's "Must See TV" successor to the venerable "Friends." The actress, who is also fluent in Spanish (the language of her father), adopted an American accent to play Sally Harper, the faithful confidant of the show's ostnsible lead Susan (Rena Sofer) who listen sympathetically to her various romantic trevails yet also moves in on Susan's ex (Colin Ferguson) before the relationship is even cold.
