Rudy shows Cliff a good magic trick, and Cliff desperately tries to figure it out.

Clair is worried that Cliff will embarrass himself when asked questions about the book, but Cliff surprises her with his thoughtful answers. The kids spend the night at Sondra and Elvin's apartment and are discouraged by all of the noise and shady neighbors.

Cliff and Clair meet with Mrs. Abbott, who says that Rudy is a good student but refuses to play the violin in music class. Rudy wants to play cymbals, and the teacher tells her that the kids will switch instruments every two weeks. Theo tries to become a psychic so he can pass his tests without studying.

Episode 19 Originally aired: January 21, 1988Theo is nervous about going to the hospital to visit his friend Jake, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. The conversation is awkward at first, but the boys end up joking around and playing basketball with the room's trashcan until Jake gets too tired. Elvin spends the night at the Huxtable house when Sondra is away and cracks the kids up with his impression of Cliff.

The Harmon's daughter Lindy comes over, and Theo does his best to woo her. Lindy tells Theo that she is going on a rock-climbing trip in Oregon and offers to teach Theo some tricks in the basement. Theo shows off and ends up breaking the bannister on the basement stairs.
