    the birth of 24

    December 28, 2006
24's Grandfather - created by Joel Surnow who went on to create 24. It's a great document of 1980s New York City as it was one of the first shows that used the actual streets of NYC as a set. The quality of the acting is amazing as well. Edward Woodward, Jerry Stiller, Burt Young, Maureen Stapleton, Robert Mitchum and other accomplished actors and almost every episode has an actor that was a nobody at the time that is a household name now. From John Goodman to Patricia Richardson to Laurie Metcalf to Lawrence Fishburne to Macaulay Culkin to Christian Slater to Lori Petti to Ed O'Neill to Charles Dutton to Melissa Joan Hart to Tony Shaloub to Jennifer Grey to Kevin Spacey to William H Macy to Steve Buscemi to Oliver Platt to Michael Moriarty to Amanda Plummer to Stanley Tucci to Keith David to David Strathairn to Hector Elizondo to Laura San Giacomo to Ving Rhames... plus the show had a street credibility with music composed by Stewart Copeland of the Police (also appeared in an episode) and appearances by David Johansen (Buster Poindexter / New York Dolls) and John Cale (Velvet Underground) and lead parts played by Adam Ant and a 16 year-old Adam Horowitz who years later became one of the Beastie Boys.
