The Third World War has produced a virus designed to kill enemy troops and leave civilians unhurt, but the virus mutates and quickly spreads out of control. Fearing man's more violent nature, women embrace the genocide and create an all-female society which they propagate through high science. Their single-sex culture is shattered when Hope Chayce, a bio-engineer, breaks the law by creating a rapidly maturing, non-violent baby boy named Adam.
