Craig Carson/Johnny Ferguson - the man is a genius

    December 25, 2006
I'm an old fart, I'll admit it. I adored Jack Parr, Steve Allen, Johnny, and more recently Denis Miller, all geniuses. These days I switch between Leno and Letterman, both GREAT, I just can't choose, and I put Conan above the two of them, but NEVER have I laughed minute after minute, night after night as much as watching Craig Ferguson. The man is an AMAZING entertainer, whether it be doing the monologue, interviews, immitations, or show skits, he keeps me watching the whole way thru. Is America giving him his due? Perhaps when he becomes a citizen in 2007.

Hands down the best late night talk show host!

    February 13, 2007
Craig is quick in his humor, witty and very intelligent. He doesn't wallow in the muddy potty humor that everyone else falls on because it's easy. He shows his efforts by rising above that to give the viewer a truly enjoyable experience. Yes, he picks on the celebrities and yes, there are the innuendos thrown in to keep things interesting, but he's got a good thing going and it takes someone with real talent to do what he's doing. Keep it up, Craig!

BEST LATE NIGHT HOST SINCE CARSON

    April 13, 2007
Craig Ferguson is a breath of fresh air to late night viewing. He is funny without being mean spirited, very intelligent, and is able to keep the viewers interest without the bands and all the trappings. I just love his Scottish accent, cute mannerisms, and he is sooooo handsome!! If Worldwide Pants fails to replace Letterman with Craig when the time comes, they re really missing the boat.

    Craig Ferguson

    February 14, 2007
When I was a kid, Steve Allen was the King .. then Johnny Carson, then David Letterman and now Craig Ferguson has moved into the ranks along with the very best.
Very original monologue that is more than the 3 quick jokes we get with Letterman. Some re-occurring ideas, but with new, excellent ideas each time.

The late, late programme with Prince Charles!

    The Elevator Chronicles ...

His "fondness" of Orlando Bloom ...

I don't mind the lack of A-class stars because Ferguson makes up for it with his wit and outstanding comedy.

One of the interviews with Danny Bonaducci is just about the funniest things I've ever seen!

Why are you not watching Craig Ferguson yet?

    February 9, 2007
For my money, Craig Ferguson is the only late night host who truly "gets" it. Leno is still mired in the 60s, Conan is a gimmicky comedian. Letterman, especially since his health problems, is the best of the lot, but even he holds back and relies on comedy to get him out of sticky situations.

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson is a different breed. He's as professional and as good a comedian as the others. Where his show excels is that he's the only one who's truly ready and able to show his heart, day after day after day.

His Emmy-nominated episode should have shown people that. His father had just died. He came in and did a show. He broke up during his monologue, and got teary. In short, he was real. This is what people are looking for today. Some semblance of truth. And this is what Craig Ferguson offers.

One of his most powerful shows was the 9/11 anniversary last year. He refused to do a comedy monologue, but did his show anyway, interviewing people who were affected by that day. It was deeply moving.

And who says our late night hosts have to keep pouring out the funny? I'd much rather have the real, with a bit of funny mixed in, which is what Ferguson gives us night after night.

This is why I think he's truly the late night host of the future. His bands are eclectic. His guests are varied and interesting (well, besides the CBS actors plugging their shows). He often has authors on. Yes, those who write books. I love that.

Where The Late Late Show succeeds best is when Craig Ferguson is allowed to follow his own path, his own heart. CBS appears to have stuffed him back in suit and tie again. I loved that, for awhile, he was showing up in leather and jeans. It was so much better. Be real. Show up in whatever you want to wear. It's more au courant.

Once he starts having Internet blogsters as guests, I'll know he's truly the real deal, and is plugged in to the now.

Have I mentioned how incredibly sexy he is? Handsome and sexy, and not afraid to use it in his monologue. Not really sure what's up with all the references to sleeping with men, but you go, Craigy, you go! What other talk show host even ventures into the dirty joke? Is this not a time-honored comedic tradition? Especially late night? Remember when Johnny used to have women on just to oogle their cleavage? Have we really gone so far from that classic TV that we don't do that on ANY of the late night shows anymore? Well, if anyone goes there, it's Ferguson, and thank god for his randiness.

The things that bug me are the bits, and the schtick and the overused jokes and photos. But when he's on his game, when he's being himself--dressed down and lustily making jokes, he cannot be beat. He takes on Hollywood honchos with ease (he's on the Rosie side in the Trump-Rosie feud), he dashes Paris and Lindsay Lohan with the best of them. He raved about the iPhone.

He's just plugged in. He shows us what he cares about, and by doing so, we care about it. That is the mode of entertainment today. He gets it. Even when his own bosses don't.

So let the man wear jeans already. And WATCH him. Not on YouTube. On CBS. You'll be so glad you did.
