Episode 2 Originally aired: June 14, 2009The nine remaining finalists are challenged to create a “Recipe for Men” for Esquire magazine using ingredients typically found in an Esquire man's pantry. In the next challenge, the finalists are randomly assigned a holiday and must prepare a dish that represents their holiday in an innovative way. The winner will be featured in Good Housekeeping’s July issue and the loser will face elimination.

Episode 3 Originally aired: June 21, 2009The eight finalists are paired into teams of two and challenged to create a lavish dinner for Ina Garten and her friends. Another finalist is eliminated.

The Ultimate American Meal
Episode 4 Originally aired: June 28, 2009The seven remaining finalists are challenged to create their own version of the hamburger for judge Bobby Flay. Later, the finalists are challenged to create a signature American dish using a basket of mystery ingredients. Another finalist is eliminated.

Rachael Ray
Episode 5 Originally aired: July 5, 2009The six remaining finalists are challenged by Rachael Ray to create a kid-friendly dish for a group of children using adult-themed ingredients such as squid and tofu. Later, the finalist’s are paired into teams and challenged to create gourmet adult dishes from typical child dishes and present them to Rachael Ray on her show.

Miami "Up All Night"
Episode 6 Originally aired: July 12, 2009The five remaining finalists are challenged to create a dish for an airport restaurant before they travel on a plane to Miami. For their next challenge, the remaining finalists cater a swanky party for a high-end nightclub. Another finalist is eliminated.

Red Lobster Beachside Wood Grilling Challenge
Episode 7 Originally aired: July 19, 2009The four remaining finalists are challenged to a live cooking demo which will be given on a Miami morning television show. The finalist’s next challenge is to create a seafood recipe which will be prepared over Red Lobster’s wood grills and served to its guests. The winner will have their dish put on the Red Lobster menu and the losers will face elimination.

VIP Party in Miami
Episode 8 Originally aired: July 26, 2009The three remaining finalists are challenged to create a three-course meal in three hours for a culinary elite group of twenty people and present a live demo on their dishes.

Finale
Episode 9 Originally aired: August 2, 2009The two remaining finalists travel to Miami and are challenged to cook for numerous Food Network stars at the South Beach Food & Wine Festival. Afterward, the finalists fly back to New York where a winner is chosen.
