For those with a real funny bone...
June 16, 2008
This is one of THE best shows ever created for television. Period. I applaud the BBC for the courage to launch a show such as this. Moreso, I seriously thank Gervais and the creators for tapping into a true comedy.
The Office is made for those of us that don't need a 'cue' for the joke...and for those of us that live in the office so much that we all know a David Brent (or two).
These are the most quirky and, yet, the most authentic characters ever created for TV. I could name a couple of workplaces where a documentary would play out very close to The Office...and if more people saw this original series, I'm sure they would co-sign.
The comedic timing of all the characters, the loosely written script/dialogue, and the believable unbelievable-ness will mesmerize you and you'll hang on for hours longer.
I love the US version, but this one tops my list as one of the most enjoyable television experiences. Now...off to watch my DVD of the first season all over again!

The Office

I don't think it is fair to say that either one is bad or good. Yes, I know that the British Version was first, but the reason there is an "american" version, is to adjust to the different views of comedy in different cultures. Now, call me immature, but I as an american, find that a little bit of physical (sight based) humor great when combined with some jokes that require some thought to understand them (or maybe not thought, but a knowledge aquired by living in an area long enough that you can laugh at the "situational" humor). The british version is the same in that it tries to please the crowd of a different nationality. So, regardless, unless you have expirienced both cultures to understand the humor, or your just a naturally fun loving person that laughs at anything, i think that you will favor one based on your expirience of humor through your nationality. All-in-all, i would say that they are equal, seeing how they both try to please different crowds, and both crowds seem to be pleased with what they are watching.

A classic

This series shines with the comic genius of Ricky Gervais. Every scene, which appears to be spontaneous, is in fact a crafted piece of human comedy. The Christmas special introduces some changes to the view of the previous two years, not to mention the perfect resolution to the Dawn/Tim conundrum.

"Funniest show ever!"
July 22, 2008
I was amazed, and in full agreement with Mr. David Letterman when he had Ricky Gervais on the show for the first time, and the first thing he said to him was that The Office was the funniest show ever, completely mirroring what my friends and I had been telling everyone and anyone who would listen at the time. If you think Michael Scott is a real shmuck of a boss, wait till you see David Brent. True television genius. If you're a fan of the American Office and have never seen the original, or even if you are not a fan, do yourself a favor and check out what I and Mr. David Letterman agree to be the funniest show ever.

There is no comparison!

Though the American verison is funny, the original british 'Office' is genius!!! Ricky Gervais' David Brent was so good at making the audience genuinely uncomfortable. And Finchy!! the few times the Finchy character was on was pure TV gold. Very good show. Even though it was only two seasons.
