A documentary crew decides to observe the employees of Dunder Mifflin, focusing their attentions around manager Michael Scott who has to deal with the possibility of an upcoming downsizing.
Michael's behavior brings about the arrival of a consultant who teaches the staff about diversity and tolerance. Michael one-ups the consultant and hosts a seminar of his own. Dwight beats out Jim for a big commission.
Dwight angers his coworkers with his abuse of power when he's put in charge of the company's health care plan and Dwight cuts the services drastically. Michael promises the staff a surprise to make up for their awful day but fails to come up with one.
Michael tries to stave off talk of downsizing with an office birthday party. Dwight turns to Jim for a truce so that they can band together against one of them being downsized. Jim agress so that he can mess around with Dwight. Michael accidentally volunteers a huge charity donation to Oscar.
Michael tries to rally his office staff to a basketball win over the warehouse personnel especially after he sets the stakes that the loser has to work on Saturday. He calls the game while they're ahead, but chickens out of enforcing the victory.
Michael and Dwight hit on a pretty woman, Katy, who tries selling purses to the staff. Michael volunteers to give her a ride. Jim asks Katy out on a date and ends up stealing Michael's ride from him.
