Comedy the way it should be

    July 20, 2007
Sarah Silverman is rude, offensive, and maybe plain stupid at times. But that's WHY you love her. She comes off as an innocent and pleasantly unaware young woman, yet can still throw you the most obnoxious and split-your-gut hilarious antics. Other comedies like this don't really have brains behind them, or no point at all. Sarah's program, on the other hand, concentrates on a plot line and DELIVERS. Sure, they do make fun of things, but they also get a statement across. Whether it be something related to the world, or just one person, there is usually a message hidden within each episode. The characters are great, also. The show was pure genius. I mean, gay neighbors, a dull sister, her dorky cop boyfriend, and Doug the dog really give something. But not as much as Sarah. She is really a unique wonder.

    The WORST

    May 19, 2008
Ok. There is no reason for debates about this show. This is not the case of some people getting it and others just not use to the this particular humor.
This is not a case of we agree to disagree. This show is simply retarded. I am not sure what types of experiences you would have had to find this funny, but such a state of mental affairs should be classified as a mental disorder asap. It has nothing to do with the show being offensive, it is just a complete waste of airwaves. At first i thought i might not be getting it when i stared at the screen and saw not a single moment worth remembering. To double check i dared my friends to find something funny about the show and even offered a cash reward. Alas, my wallet is no lighter.

    Satire demands viewer comprehension

    April 4, 2007
Contrary to what some of the self-styled reviewers have to say here, The Sarah Silverman Program is a high water mark of satire. No disrespect to other shows it has been compared to, but Sarah's performance and the rest of her cast strike such a perfect note with such apparent ease that her program distinguishes itself. Especially inspired is the pep talk she unknowingly gives to the daughter she thinks that she (proudly) aborted. Zing! Some viewers aren't used to thinking when they watch TV, and I'm amazed the detractors of this show have the mental capacity to type a review. As an educated adult, free of drugs, I have no problem getting and enjoying the show. As a good Cafeteria Catholic, I am not offended by the religious concepts either. And clearly the touch of "doody" humor is the equivalent of the jester's coxcomb so the digs don't come from a place of pretense. What I warm to isn't the character any more than Seinfeld's fictional persona but the fact that it allows the show to take digs at the jaded and infantilized culture that surrounds us - frankly an ignorance very well personified by the sort of person who rates the Sarah Silverman Program one star out of five. How can you not love the attention to detail? The episode about terrorism (and a beauty contest) starts with her alarm clock which was set for 9:11 am. Insane? Yes. But also quite substantial, fun, and rewarding for those who still have a sparks in their eyes and brains in their heads. Great, goofy songs too. If only the retarded on this board would be "re-smarted."
