This show is so good it hurts!
November 20, 2006
I got hooked on The Wire by watching season 1 and 2 on DVD. I was so into it I could barely go to work, all I wanted to do was race home and see what was going to happen next on the rough streets of Baltimore.
This show tackles massive issues: crime, the drug trade, politics, police corruption and now this season the education system with an unflinching eye.
The cast of mostly unkowns and a lot of Baltimore locals is uniformly excellent.
The writiing is so poetic that I'll often rewind a scene just to take in the different layers of meaning by re-watching.
Get the DVDs and start catching up!!

The Best Show ----Period!
June 18, 2007
The only reason why this didn't catch on like the soprano's is because this takes place in a black neighborhood in Baltimore and not an italian mob family in NJ/NYC. There's a romantic view of organized crime / mafia; as well as they aren't with black faces. The same organizational structure, the same fronts, but this show screams with reality. Its a shame, because as this show is meant to show the neglect of inner city streets, it also, accidentaly, shows that all you need is to change the skin tone, and you'd probably have viewership that outpaced all of their shows. But that's just my humble opinion.
The fact is that as soon as black faces are seen in a large amount of cast, most of middle america turn their TV sets off before even learning what the show is about. And if more minorities could afford HBO, than viewership would be a non issue. And I would put money on that.

The Wire will pull you in!
June 13, 2007
Instead of solving a case in an episode, this show spans over five years on ONE case. It is without a doubt better than CSI, Law and Order, The Sheild... its realistic view of Baltimore and the complexities of being Maryland's finest, and how polictial everything is when it comes to just bringing justice to the streets of Baltimore. Well done!

Unbelievable!
June 30, 2007
Absolutely the best show, ever, period. So elaborate, excellent acting, amazing characters, so real and true. I could not get enough, can't wait for the last season. Props to HBO for extending the contract for all 5 seasons, I was afraid they would X it early on. Congratulations to the producers and directors, you guys put on the show of all shows.

Too good for TV
June 21, 2007
I can't even believe it's been on for 4 or 5 years. I've never seen a drama this good: realistic yet enthralling, and so smart. Way better than anything else on television. It makes NYPD Blue and Sopranos look like fluff.
