Review of Feb. 25th 2008 show (Moment of Truth)

    March 2, 2008
I viewed the above show, and was impress at the answers that the contestant was giving at the time. She was doing everything in her power to give truthful answers. She has answered questions such as stealing from her employer, about having sex after being married for 2 years, hiding information from her mother about her father and how she enjoyed seeing her sister being punished for wrong doing. She admitted that she would go back to her previous boyfriend if he would take her back and that she was in love with someone else on her wedding day. She had lost respect from her mother, sister, husband, boyfriends, and only had one thing to strive for and that was to win the money. When they threw in the last question "Do you feel that you're a good person?" and the polygraph stated that she was lying, when her answer was that she IS a good person. Polygraphs are designed to record reactions of individuals when they are "knowingly" telling a lie. Polygraphs are to record physical reactions within the body. When the person being asked a question does not know what the answer is, and are simply guessing to match what the machine might say is wrong. This machine is not infallible. This is why it is not admissible in court. This is also why if the contestant does not know what the answer is, the machine cannot determine the proper answer. The woman was cheated out of 200,000 dollars on a question that could not be answered by the machine. The question was in "her opinion", and opinions cannot be measured by this particular machine. I can imagine what the final 2 questions may be, 1) Did you have an abortion? If she said yes, her life was destroyed, along with her marriage, if not already so, and if no, the next question would be, Asked by the chief of police saying "Do you really think you would get away with this murder?" Due to this tactic, you have eliminated me as a viewer. I have been a police officer for 42 years and have had some experiences with this machine. I have seen subjects pass the polygraph and confronted suspects afterward telling them they have completely lied. They have then admitted that they were lying, and were unaware that the machine was telling the truth. Many of these tests result in questionable answers. My only conclusion is that the show was trying to save 200,000 dollars. I am having my granddaughter type this letter in her yahoo name, due to my poor vision.
