Eric, Jensen, Jared... words of appreciation
5 stars
Realizing that MR. KRIPKE (or assistants) may take the time to occasionally check our comments, I’m going to take this opportunity to rant and rave a bit. As a 30-something medical professional, I may not fit the mold of the typical viewer, but I would like to THANK Mr. Kripke and every person involved in Supernatural from the bottom of my heart for providing us with such a superb show and renewing my faith that quality television really does exist. I am in awe of the creative talents at work here which have consistently brought us phenomenal episodes -- every single one of them to date -- no bell curve here… each one has been in the 90th percentile and above. My line of work demands excellence and I can definitely respect the efforts required to produce such outstanding work on a weekly basis under the tremendous time pressures. My sincere hope is that the studio realizes it as well and does not allow the deadly Thurs at 9 spot to kill the show.
WHY AM I ENTHRALLED WITH THIS PROGRAM? Well, I see enough real drama every day and I don’t want my TV to be just another reflection of that… can’t deal with superfluous Grey’s Anatomy, have had enough of the cop and reality shows, and am totally fed up with the long drawn out mysteries of Lost (my limit for such mysteries is about a half-season; if it drags on more than that, it is just plain annoying and not worth my valuable time). The only other program that captivates me in this regard and gets my full attention is “24”.
ON SUPERNATURAL, WE GET THE PERFECT MIX : the scary thrills, weekly hunt, the emotionality between the brothers, and enough mysteries to keep us guessing in the short-term makes for one potent combination. The heart of the show MUST remain the ongoing development of the relationship between the brothers, with the surface hostility and priceless smartass remarks covering the true “I would die for you” bond they share. Don’t be afraid to capitalize on those rare chick-flick type moments! My greatest disappointment came with the announcement of a potential long-term “love interest”, which was only topped by the inappropriate, teeny-bopper choice of actress playing Jo. So wrong for this show, for so many reasons. I’m not saying the boys shouldn’t have a little fun now and then, but if I want to see love angst, I’ll visit the O.C. or Smallville. As an old adage goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” Past characters Bobby & Missouri should not be forgotten. New characters Ash & Ellen will make interesting additions.
NOW A WORD ABOUT THE ACTORS. Excellent writing is practically worthless without talented actors to bring the words to life. To Jensen and Jared, congratulations for consistently upping their game with these characters. Jensen’s work on Dean, from the perfectly timed line delivery to the facial expressions is impeccable. The work of both only gets better and better as the weeks go by. The chemistry is phenomenal. My heartfelt thanks to both for the long hours and hard work they dedicate, and for sharing their talents with us. Sure, they are getting well paid and riding the fame wave, but work is still work! I will also truly miss the wonderful performances of Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but I understand the necessity of what happened to drive this show even further creatively and emotionally. (But I am almost positive we haven’t seen the last of Daddy Winchester… after all, this IS Supernatural!)
Enough raving for now! I loved season 1 and am so looking forward to the ride for the rest of season 2. Mr. Kripke, Jensen, Jared and everyone involved… thank you all so very, very much!!!
