  • Valentine's Day POPSessions: 'Cougar Town' Stars Busy Philipps and Dan Byrd Love the '90s

Caroline Kepnes at Yahoo TV 1 yr ago

In the fifth season of "Cougar Town," Laurie (Busy Philipps) and Travis (Dan Byrd) have become the couple who are so good we want them to get married. We conveyed our feelings to Philipps, and she's on board. "Do you know what I like about how they handle their relationship?" she mused. "It's indicative of all the relationships that I like in my favorite TV shows, when Ross and Rachel were together, or Jim and Pam on 'The Office.' You just see them existing in the world together as a couple and that feels to me more like how the real world is."

POPSessions starts now. (Dan Byrd joins soon.) The theme is Valentine's Day — even if it will seem like a round of "Friends" trivia.

    1. What's your favorite movie to watch on a lonely Valentine's Day?

Philipps: Is it weird if I say my husband's movie "Never Been Kissed"? It's amazing, and it will probably be on TV on Valentine's Day so you can watch it!

    2. Who was your first screen crush when you were a little kid?

Philipps: Leonardo DiCaprio in "Growing Pains."

    3. What's the most romantic moment in movie history?

    Byrd: Vampires?

  • Jess Shrieks Over Prince on 'New Girl'

Caroline Kepnes at Yahoo TV 1 yr ago

Move over, football. Super Bowl Sunday will now be known as Purple Sunday because the one and only Prince is appearing on a very special episode of "New Girl" called "Party Time." Score!

Fox has just released a high decibel preview of what's to come. We hope that Deschanel had lots of tea and honey nearby while shooting this scene. Earmuffs, people, earmuffs:

In the special episode, Jess (Deschanel) and Cece (Hannah Simone) nab invites to a shindig at Prince's totally nonhumble abode, Paisley Park. Nick (Jake Johnson) is clearly along for the ride, as evidenced in the hilarious photo below of Prince stuck between the two lovebirds. There's so much to love here — Prince's hair, Nick's face, Jess being Jess.

This whole party scenario is not as improbable as you might think. After all, Prince opened up Paisley Park for a pajama party last year when he and his band performed in their jammies. The event was called "Breakfast Experience Pajama Dance Party."

  • 'Nashville' Sneak Peek: Rayna Gets NASCAR Surprise, Driver Austin Dillon Cameos [Exclusive Video]

Caroline Kepnes at Yahoo TV 1 yr ago

What do you get for a country gal like Rayna who's got it all: two gorgeous daughters, one hot mess of an ex, and one helluva singing career?

If you're superstar country crooner Luke Wheeler (Will Chase), you surprise her with a NASCAR racecar emblazoned with her brand and her image. Yes, this episode marks the introduction of the fully functioning Rayna-mobile. A car like this needs to be in motion, which is why hunky NASCAR pro Austin Dillon makes an appearance. But, even more exciting is Rayna's beau Luke, who is as smart as he is business-savvy as he is romantic …

It has to be said. Dating a famous guy never seemed like a better thing to do than it does in this clip from "It's All Wrong, But It's Not Right:"

Rayna: "That is very sweet. It's not every day you get an autograph from a serious champ."

Austin: "Well, it's not every day I get to race against Rayna Jaymes."

"Nashville" airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.

  • Hurricane 'Mindy': Who Joined the Mile High Kiss Club?

Caroline Kepnes at Yahoo TV 1 yr ago

This episode started out on a schlumpy note with Mindy holed up in her hotel room in L.A., missing Cliff, and watching "Gone With the Wind." We feel her pain; Hurricane "Mindy" goes on hiatus until April so this is a hard night all around. But by the end of the show we were shedding happy tears. It happened! Mindy and Danny kissed! They did! And the road to the kiss was paved with nuanced moments, superb acting, and Jewel.

A hurricane in the desert is a rare miracle of science. It's also funny. Wheels up!

Level 5: Watch out! Tornado? Sharknado? Mind-ado!

Level 4: Danger! Yes, that's hail out there

Level 3: Thunder sounds worse than it is (knock on wood)

Level 2: Cloudy with 50-50 chance of drama

Level 1: Smooth sailing. Happy, healthy, and totally well-adjusted!

Mindy's drinking wine from a gas station and booking a flight to New York to win Cliff back. Danny doesn't approve of her plan because he wants her to be his wing woman while he reconnects with his estranged father (Dan Hedaya). But she wants Cliff.

We only have one question: Is it April 1 yet?

  • The Tao of Sami Brady: 7 Dating Tricks on 'Days of Our Lives' That Don't Work in Real Life

Caroline Kepnes at Yahoo TV 1 yr ago

Believe it or not, the blond/mother of four/lover of many/repeat bride/paternity test enthusiast that soap fans love to hate (and love to love) is leaving "Days of Our Lives." After breathing life and venom for 21 years into the character deemed America's Favorite Villain in the 2001 Daytime Emmys, actress Alison Sweeney is leaving the show to spend more time with her real-life family. She will still have some drama in her life; Sweeney will continue witnessing weight loss meltdowns as the host of "The Biggest Loser."

[Photos: Alison Sweeney on 'Days of Our Lives']

During an appearance on "Ellen," Sweeney jokingly told host Ellen DeGeneres that "Sami probably deserves some sort of very twisted, like 'Breaking Bad,' ending."

It could happen. After all, Sami has done some really sick things in Salem. And what better time than now to recall Sami's shenanigans that you should never, ever try at home?

    1. Trick him into thinking he's your sister.

    2. Don't let the death penalty get you down.

    4. Always forgive.

  • 'Flowers in the Attic' in 15 GIFs: Hiss! Slap! Kiss!

Caroline Kepnes at Yahoo TV 1 yr ago

Lifetime's faithful adaptation of "Flowers in the Attic," based on V.C. Andrews's hit 1979 novel, is shockingly understated, as much as a story involving incest, poison, and Heather Graham's bloody back can be understated. It's not the extreme campiness that a lot of people were expecting, which is a compliment to the cast. Kiernan Shipka was pretty much born to play Cathy Dollanganger a growing girl who makes the most out of being trapped in an attic with her handsome brother Chris (Mason Dye) and their two younger siblings (Ava Telek and Maxwell Kovach). Heather Graham and Ellen Burstyn bring dimension to their demented monster moms. "Flowers" isn't a disastrous guilty pleasure à la "Liz & Dick," but it's worth obsessing over in the good way.

Let's take a walk through the key moments in Dollanganger/Foxworth family history:

A widowed mother of four frets about her ability to provide for her children. "Look at me. I'm an ornament. The only thing I was ever good at was being pretty." Best. Mommy. Everrr.

Just a couple of kids dreaming of a future in Florida.

    Mommy slaps Cathy!

  • Hurricane 'Mindy' Hits L.A. It's All Talk, No Action

Caroline Kepnes at Yahoo TV 1 yr ago

There was a major breakup, but it should have happened in the first five minutes, not the last five minutes. This hurricane was kind of off-kilter, so hold on tight.

Level 5: Watch out! Tornado? Sharknado? Mind-ado!

Level 4: Danger! Yes, that's hail out there

Level 3: Thunder sounds worse than it is (knock on wood)

Level 2: Cloudy with 50-50 chance of drama

Level 1: Smooth sailing. Happy, healthy, and totally well-adjusted!

We're bored of Cliff (Glenn Howerton) because when Mindy packs "bikinis, a Kabbalah bracelet, and Hawaiian Slut Tanning Oil," he doesn't flirt with her or tease her. He just judges her. Ick.

We officially dislike Cliff. He tells Mindy that his apartment is being converted into an asbestos museum and he has nowhere to live. She gets vulnerable and invites him to move in, and he says one of the worst things a man can say to a woman: "I'll think about it." She lets him get away with that. Whaaa???

We're there! Mindy and Peter (Adam Pally) hit up "Dope Shoes" and Mindy is intimidated because everyone is "two races." And surprise: Casey (Anders Holm) is back from Haiti and he owns Dope Shoes. And he looks good.

  • The One Where Monica and Chandler Reunite on 'Cougar Town'!

Caroline Kepnes at Yahoo TV 1 yr ago

In case you missed it (or just want to relive it), here’s a play-by-play of his guest appearance as Sam: a likable, cute, commitment-ready venture capitalist.

    Meet Cute Car Crash

Jules is on the phone with her car insurance company while she’s driving, and she drops her wedding ring. She bends over to find it, and wham-o! She rear-ends a really expensive car driven by a really cute guy named Sam. He doesn’t want her insurance papers. But he does want coffee.

    Two Cups of Nostalgia

    Engaged "On a Feeling"

So Sam doesn’t know that Jules is married. And she’s going to tell him. Really, she is. But then he organizes a dancing flash mob — with a marching band — and they do "Hooked on a Feeling." Ellie is right when she calls it the best engagement ever. Matthew Perry looks cute in a bandleader uniform. But then, Matthew Perry looks cute in everything.

  • 'Cloud 9' Sneak Peek: Kayla Has 'No Doubt, No Fear' About Boarding Down Titan's Peak [Exclusive Video]

Caroline Kepnes at Yahoo TV 1 yr ago

Readers who consider themselves afraid of heights be warned. Disney is taking you on a ride that might be scarier than Space Mountain, and possibly even more fun.

A few months ago, Disney Channel's "Teen Beach Movie" attracted a record-breaking audience with its retro surfing vibe. This winter, the network (along with executive producer and "High School Musical" alum Ashley Tisdale) invites everyone to the mountains for extreme snowboarding. The snowy made-for-TV movie features "Liv and Maddie" lead Dove Cameron as Kayla Morgan, a semibratty snowboarder who just got dropped from her team.

[Related: Disney Channel's 'Descendants' Casts Belle's Teenage Son]

This exclusive clip shows that Kayla is not the kind of girl who snow-bums around sipping hot chocolate and pouting. Instead, she risks her life. The only way to appreciate the athletic extremism is to watch and see just how far Kayla is willing to go to show the world that she's got skills (and guts):

"Cloud 9" premieres Friday, Jan. 17 at 8 p.m. on Disney Channel.

  • Brian Van Holt Feels 'Blessed' to Direct Matthew Perry in 'Cougar Town'

Caroline Kepnes at Yahoo TV 1 yr ago

Brian Van Holt hit the jackpot when he was cast as freeloadin', beer-swillin' Bobby Cobb, the full-on Floridian ex-husband of Jules (Courteney Cox) in everyone's favorite wine-soaked comedy, "Cougar Town."

Fans of the cult hit were stoked when the show found a second life on TBS after ABC let Cox and her talented friends go (because ABC is really great at nurturing offbeat half-hour shows). The move to cable has been good for the cul-de-sac comedy, which becomes paradoxically zanier and more grounded every week. Where else can a mother-son shower sex snafu be played for slapstick comedy and earnest familial pathos? Ah, Florida.

This week Van Holt hits two more jackpots: He directs the episode — awesome! — and the episode features a "Friends" reunion with guest star Matthew Perry — more awesome! Van Holt is grateful to have been at the helm of this action-packed episode wherein Jules gets into a fender-bender with Sam (Perry). The two go on a date, which is awkward given that Jules is, you know, married to Grayson (Josh Hopkins).

We talked to Van Holt about drinking, directing, and dancing. Drink up, read on.

What song was everyone dancing to?
