Staying Together: Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas Make First Public Appearance Together Since Break

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have made their reconciliation red carpet official.

On Tuesday night, the couple stepped out for opening night of "The Library" at The Public Theater in New York City. The 44-year-old "Red 2" star looked stunning in a long black dress with a plunging neckline and showed off her newish blunt bangs while Douglas, 69, rocked a suit sans tie.

It gives us warm fuzzies to see Douglas and Zeta-Jones together publicly because it's been almost a year since their last red carpet appearance — at the 40th Anniversary Chaplin Award Gala last April 22. Soon after, the Welsh actress went to a treatment center to help to control her bipolar II disorder, something she has been very candid about over the years, and they endured a rocky period from there, culminating in "some time apart" in the summer.

But their rep had said they were doing "work on their marriage" and apparently they were. They soon started popping up places together: They spent time with their kids in Manhattan in December, rang in the New Year on a family ski trip in Canada, and even attended the Super Bowl together in February.

While Zeta-Jones was tight-lipped on the status of their marriage during that time, Douglas remained positive in public, saying on "The Tonight Show" in October, "Sometimes people take a little bit of a break, but it doesn't necessarily mean that's the end. I'm very hopeful."

The couple's mutual pal Steven Soderbergh was who brought them out last night. The director — whom they worked with together ("Traffic") and separately ("Ocean's Twelve" and "Behind the Candelabra," among other projects) — is helming "The Library," which stars Chloe Moretz.

But it doesn't really matter what brought them together, just that they are together.
