Why Women Love 'Deadliest Catch'

"Deadliest Catch" follows captains and their crews who risk their lives in fishing vessels in the Bering Sea. One of those captains is Keith Colburn, the head of crab-fishing boat "The Wizard," and even he was surprised when he realized how popular the reality show is with one particular audience.

"There's a huge female following," Keith says of the show. The captain recalled a promotion at a supermarket in Texas where he asked a group of excited female fans why they watch. They said, "Seven guys on a boat! All guys and it's real dangerous, duh."

The danger might be thrilling to watch on television, but it's completely serious for the captain, who protects his crew in life-threatening situations nearly every year at sea. The scariest situation he's ever been in? Almost losing his entire crew in Season 5. "I took a gigantic wave that almost took out six guys in one fell swoop," Keith says. "That was one of the worst."
