Bruce Willis and Katy Perry on "Saturday Night Live"

It's been nearly a quarter of a century since Bruce Willis last hosted "Saturday Night Live." He made his one and only appearance in Season 15's premiere on Sept. 30, 1989.

A lot has happened between then and this Saturday, when the "Red 2" star returns to Studio 8H. Willis himself has changed quite a bit — back then, the 34-year-old was just an up-and-coming star who had proven that he could do comedy ("Moonlighting") and action ("Die Hard"). Oh, and he had hair:

The world is a different place than it was in 1989. Check out everything that's happened since Willis hosted "SNL":

Nov. 9, 1989: The Berlin Wall falls.

July 4, 1990: "Die Hard 2" hits theaters.

Feb. 9, 1991: Adam Sandler makes his debut on "SNL" as a featured player.

Nov. 22, 1992: Last week's "SNL" host, Miley Cyrus, is born. This week's musical guest, Katy Perry, was 8 years old.

May 20, 1993: "Cheers" airs its series finale.

Oct. 14, 1994: Willis rejuvenates his career in Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction."

May 19, 1995: "Die Hard: With a Vengeance" is released.

July 5, 1996: Dolly the sheep is the first mammal ever to be cloned.

Dec. 19, 1997: "Titanic" crushes box-office records.

June 24, 1998: Willis and wife Demi Moore separate (divorce isn't finalized for two years). A year later, she begins dating Ashton Kutcher (then 21), whom she later marries and divorces.

July 25, 1999: Lance Armstrong wins the first of seven consecutive Tour de France races. He is later stripped of all titles for doping offenses.

July 2000: File-sharing service Napster rocks the music industry when Radiohead's "Kid A" album is leaked before release.

Sept. 11, 2001: Terrorists attack the U.S. killing nearly 3,000 people.

Sept. 4, 2002: Kelly Clarkson wins the first season of "American Idol." The hit singing-competition series will begin its 13th season in 2014.

Oct. 7, 2003: Willis's fellow action star Arnold Schwarzenegger is elected governor of California.

February 2004: Mark Zuckerberg and his Harvard roommates launch Facebook.

May 23, 2005: Willis turns 50. Tom Cruise jumps on Oprah Winfrey's couch during an interview while proclaiming his love for Katie Holmes. The couple marry a year later and divorce in 2012.

Feb. 10, 2006: "Arrested Development" is canceled and airs its last episode. Seven years later, Netflix airs a fourth season of the cult comedy.

June 27, 2007: "Live Free or Die Hard" opens.

Oct. 18, 2008: After Tina Fey pops by to do her Sarah Palin impression on the "SNL" Season 34 premiere, the governor of Alaska herself stops in to do a few sketches. It is the highest-rated "SNL" episode in 14 years.

Feb. 13, 2013: Willis reprises the role of John McClane in "A Good Day to Die Hard."
