Almost enough to make you forget Red John, isn't it?
After five years of on-again, off-again courtship (remember Jane saying, “Later tonight, when Rigsby asks you to come back to his hotel room, say yes,” back in the show's pilot?), "The Mentalist" lovebirds Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) finally tied the knot on tonight's episode, "Wedding in Red."
It was a little spur-of-the-moment (Jane asks for a distraction, so Rigsby grabs a microphone and proposes to Van Pelt in front of an entire wedding party), and although it's not the fairy-tale wedding she may have dreamed of as a little girl, in the CBI, it's probably a good idea to jump on these things quickly. You know, in case your fiancé turns out to be a mole for Red John.
Really, aside from a little light murder (a pizza delivery guy gets killed over a really expensive Bible; nice to see some people still appreciate the value of books), this is sort of a nice breather. In the last two episodes, Lisbon's been taken by Red John (how quickly was she back on the job? When a serial killer smears a colleague's blood all over your face, at least take a long weekend!), Jane was sort of responsible for a cop's death, a conspiracy between three Red John suspects was revealed, another Red John suspect was killed, and Jane's old therapist's head ended up in an oven.
Go behind the scenes of this week's "Mentalist" right here:
Mostly, this week's episode is about observing one of the aforementioned conspirators: Sheriff Tom McAllister. Last episode, we heard a recording of Sophie — the therapist Jane went to after his family was killed — talking about Red John. John had pretended to be a patient so he could sneak a look at Jane's files (which is how he's been “reading his mind” all this time). She says John suffers from a fear of heights, so Lisbon and Jane repeatedly test Sheriff McAllister to see if he might be the guy. In the end, though, it turns out McAllister's just afraid of bats, so he's off the hook. Probably.
After all, Sophie was confident that he had a phobia, but maybe it's a fear of heights, or maybe it's something else. For that matter, Partridge may have faked his own death. It's pretty confusing, since every last person on the list is acting super-creepy, so it could still be any of them. All we know for certain is that show creator Bruno Heller swears it's one (or more?) of the seven suspects on the list. Unless he's lying. Oh no! What if Bruno Heller is Red John?!
Guess we'll find out soon enough.
