Will 'Modern Family's' Mitch and Cam Put a Ring on It in the Season 5 Premiere? [Video]

Are those wedding bells we hear? It just might be time for committed "Modern Family" couple Mitch and Cam (Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet) to tie the knot! Are we jumping the gun, or is that the message in this new Season 5 promo?

"Yes" is the word on everyone's lips in the sneak peek, and it sounds like a good thing. "Wednesday, Sept. 25th, 'Modern Family' will change with just one word," says the voice-over (followed by a slew of yeses), "but what's the question?"

Is it possible that "yes" is the answer to a marriage proposal? We sure hope so, because it's about time for the couple, who adopted little Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) years ago, to put a ring on it.

With the comedy taking place in California, where same-sex marriage was reinstated after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor, it would make sense for these two fellows to make their union legal.

It was confirmed at a live table read that the season opener, "Suddenly Last Summer," does revolve around California's new law, and a proposal would be a touching example of art imitating life.

Interestingly, Jeffrey Richman, who wrote the premiere, said that the story was in the works "before the [Supreme Court] decision came down." It's a good bet they made some changes after hearing the news.

So is the "yes" in this promo the "yes" that fans are hoping for? We'll have to wait and see ... with a box of tissues nearby, just in case.

"Modern Family" returns on Wednesday, 9/25 at 9 PM on ABC.
