It's Time to Stop Posing like Chickens on the Red Carpet

Last year, I blogged about a photo-posing epidemic: the chicken wing. You know the one: waist in, hand on hip, arm popped (above). The idea is to make your arm look skinnier and your waist look smaller, but it really just ends up looking like you're about to lay three eggs. (And that you maybe take yourself a bit too seriously.) We called for an end to this practice--both for ourselves and our friends--and you know what? I actually started to see a difference. (I'm sure it was all thanks to my post.) But we still have one major frontier to cross: the red carpet. And Jennifer Lawrence, we're nominating you to lead the pack at the Golden Globes this year.

Look, I'm not picking on you. I totally get it. Putting a hand on your hip accentuates all the hard work your stylist, personal trainer, spray-tanning artist, nutritionist--not to mention you--put into this moment. And everyone does it. But here's the thing: You're an actress, not a mannequin. You're not standing on the red carpet because we love how skinny your arm looks; you're standing there because we can't get over how insane your performance was in American Hustle, or the hilarious stuff that comes out of your mouth when we're watching you on Late Night. So if you want to pose that way, by all means. But if you want to throw your arms up, swing them over the shoulder of a costar, or even lift up the Golden Globe we really hope you get like a trophy, please, please do it. This is your moment, and we're tuning in on Sunday night to see you--not your chicken wing.
