Seth Rogen seems to have carved out a pretty comfortable position in Hollywood, but that doesn't mean the Canadian actor feels entirely comfortable in America.
In a new interview with Maclean's, the Canadian "This Is the End" filmmaker and star admitted he still doesn't quite feel at home in the United States. This, despite the fact that the 31-year-old Vancouver native moved to Los Angeles when he was just 16.
"Culturally, there are just some inherent differences that you will never get around," Rogen said. "I’m a lot quicker to go to the doctor than others. That’s the biggest cultural divide I see on a day-to-day basis. I grew up with not a lot of wait going to the doctor."
Rogen conceded that there was something "quintessentially Canadian" about poking fun at Hollywood in his new film, "This Is the End." In the movie, he and his famous friends (including Jay Baruchel, James Franco, and Jonah Hill, among others) play fictional versions of themselves trying to survive the apocalypse.
"There’s an inherent self-deprecation that goes along with being Canadian," he told Maclean's. "And as Canadians living in America, we always see ourselves as outsiders."
No wonder Rogen brought 30 of his Canadian childhood friends to L.A. for the film's premiere. "The Jewish population in Canada just dipped to zero,” he quipped on Marc Maron's WTF podcast earlier this week.
