What’s Happening in the ‘Downton Abbey’ Season 4 Kitchen

The wait is almost over for "Downton Abbey" fans!

The fourth season premieres January 5 on Masterpiece on PBS, and "omg! Insider Update" sat down with Lesley Nicol, who plays the downstairs cook Mrs. Patmore on the series, to chat about what her character will be up to this time around.

"I can't tell you anything in detail, because I'd have to kill you, and I don't want to do that," she said jokingly. But she wound up revealing, "She's having to manage a bit of disruption in the kitchen with the people. That's the one thing. Because the kids are all falling in love with the wrong people, and it's causing a lot of upsets."

With the fourth season taking place between February 1922 and spring 1923, Mrs. Patmore's kitchen is experiencing more than just drama over the romantic relationships. "All the kids are thrilled because a mixer arrives and are, like, 'Wow, we don't have to spend hours mixing eggs anymore; we have a machine to do it,'" the actress said. "Mrs. Patmore is terrified, because she doesn't know what is going to come and thinks that's going to be the end of her job."

While the new season will certainly bring changes to the cast, there is one thing that remains the same: the beauty of their shooting location, Highclere Castle.

"There's a scene in the library where he calls her in to actually tell her he was going to ... get her some eye surgery, get her cataracts looked at. And she's just terrified, but it wasn't a difficult scene to play, because when you walked into the library it's stunning," Lesley gushed about the beautiful library in the castle. "Even for us today, walking, you go, 'Whoa, this is quite a room.'"
