This past Monday night, Lady Gaga made a surprise appearance at Micky's in West Hollywood (and by "surprise," I mean she went on Twitter and told her nearly 40 million followers that's where she was heading). There, Gaga shantéd and sashayed with a harem of fan-favorite "RuPaul's Drag Race" alums, a couple of whom were rocking her new signature look of Scary Monsters-style harlequin facepaint and white bedsheets.

So, you know, just another typical Monday in WeHo...

I kid, I kid. Gaga was actually at Micky's on official business, to shoot the not-at-all-typical lyric video for "Applause," the lead single from her much-anticipated third album, ARTPOP.

The result, a wild clip rush-released this Wednesday, features the Lady of the hour holding court on Santa Monica Blvd. with several "Drag Race" allstars (Shangela, Morgan McMichaels, Willam, Shannel, Raven) as well as "Australian Idol" contestant and drag entertainer Courtney Act, all regular performers at the club's world-infamous "Showgirls Drag-Stravaganza."

Seriously, only at a venue like Micky's could someone like Lady Gaga get upstaged. These seasoned queens were truly lip-synching for their lives and living for the applause, applause, applause of the delighted WeHo audience, which included avowed Gaga fanboy and "America's Got Talent" star Daniel Joseph Baker. But no one seemed happier to be there than Lady Gaga herself.

Unfortunately, there was one "Drag Queen" contestant, last season's fourth-placer Detox, who seemed less than thrilled to be part of the video, posting a series of tweets implying that the camera had been "forced" on her and that she would have rescheduled her Micky's appearance if she'd known Gaga had been planning to bumrush the show. Ironically, Detox is one of the most prominent stars in the "Applause" clip, and she's absolutely fabulous in it.

However, this still may be just the beginning of a beautiful and ongoing "Drag Race"/Gaga partnership, judging from a tweet Gaga posted herself to coincide with the "Applause" lyric video's unveiling:

Wow! Gaga judging on "RuPaul's Drag Race"? Halleloo! That would be sickening. Can I get an amen up in here?
