Following the gladdening news that "American Idol" runner-up Crystal Bowersox just signed to Shanachie Records and is planning to release an album in March 2013, her Season 9 co-star, winner Lee DeWyze, has announced via a video to his fans that he too has inked a new record deal, with Vanguard.

Both Season 9 contestants only got the opportunity to release one album apiece via "Idol's" former major-label partner, BMG. However, good-sized indies like Shanachie (home to jam-band-circuit acts like Rusted Root, Floetry, and Flobots) and Vanguard (label of singer-songwriters like Chris Issak, Matt Nathanson, and Greg Laswell) respectively seem like perfect fits for Crystal and Lee--both products of an extremely anomalous "American Idol" season who never truly fit the mainstream pop mold. (Honestly, both of them should have competed on "The Voice," if that show had existed in 2010.)

"I've never felt better about being in a place than I am right now," Lee happily told his fans this week. "We plan on releasing an album and single very early this year, and I don't think I could have asked for anything better. I feel blessed and honored to be on a label like Vanguard....They're the right fit and the right place for me to be, and you're all going to be pleasantly surprised."

Are you excited for Lee and Crystal's new albums?
