Watch an Actually Touching Christmas Commercial and Then Read the Hilarious Comment Thread it Inspired

Okay, first, watch this commercial for the UK brand John Lewis, which is likely to squeeze a tear from the eye of even Mr. Scrooge (who you totally know had to have been a Smiths fan in his youth). I promise that it is worth it:

Awww! Let's hear it for whatever John Lewis is and whoever they hired as their advertising agency, for an actually touching and not at all irritating and quite beautiful short film of a commercial! And now that we've done that, let's read an (intentionally, for once!) hilarious YouTube comment this commercial, posted just today, has already inspired.

Those Brits, who are funnier than us, at some point in the YouTube comment thread suggested what might be in the box, which eventually led to this, by commenter wav3ydave:

"Killing a dog in the name of the commercialisation of Christmas may seem harsh, but we need to kickstart this economy somehow. The ad is saying two things: one, that we should put our faith in large corporations to drag us out of this mess. And two, that homemade gifts — a dog's head in this case — are not an acceptable substitute for rampant consumption."

That's the funniest one, but there are more where that came from. Love you, United Kingdom! Merry Christmas!
