"Black Sails" star Luke Arnold gave us backstage access to the Television Critics Association press tour Friday when he took over our Instagram account. Think tuna tartare and selfies — not parrots and eye patches.
In fact, there will be very little pirate kitsch on the show. Producers have stressed that the drama, from executive producer Michael Bay, is gonna keep it real. The prequel to the "Treasure Island" story will feature less Jack Sparrow swagger and more frontier-style grit.
"No one has dug deep into the bedrock of pirates yet — into the reality of what it was like to wake up in the morning and know that if you were going to survive or eat, you needed to take from someone else’s mouth," co-creator/exec producer Jon Steinberg told the press.
Arnold will play young pirate John Silver to Toby Stephens's Captain Flint on the Starz series, premiering Jan. 25. But for today, he was just a very busy actor, sitting for back-to-back interviews in between signing autographs and snapping candid shots with cast and crew for Yahoo TV's Instagram.

"Black Sails" premieres Saturday, Jan. 25 at 9 p.m. on Starz.
