It goes without saying that HBO's "True Blood," classic musicals, and Carrie Underwood's voice are a few of our favorite things. And that's why we are counting the days until Dec. 5 when Underwood and Moyer star as Maria and Captain Georg von Trapp in a live performance of "The Sound of Music." When curtain rises on NBC for the live musical, you don't want to be late. After all, it's not often that you can go to the theater for Rodgers & Hammerstein without, you know, going to the theater.
The promo video above ushers us onstage for rehearsals. Underwood and Moyer practically glide when they dance across the floorboards. The country singer raves that the talent in this production is "off the charts" and she's right.
"Smash" alum Christian Borle laughs that it's "a good thing we're rehearsing" after a tiny slip-up with co-star Laura Benanti ("Go On," "Royal Pains"), but honestly, this group is so gifted, they could probably air the special tonight. Another awesomely cute moment: Underwood, dressed down in jeans for rehearsal, jumps on a bed onstage with the von Trapp children prancing about nearby. And the singing! Tony Award-winning actress Audra McDonald, seen in nun garb, was named Musician of the Year by "Music America" for a reason. She has pipes. Big ones. Let's just say that Julie Andrews would approve. And Underwood's rendition of "Favorite Things"? Well, we're sure it'll quickly become one of your favorite things.
"The Sound of Music Live!" is based on the original 1959 Broadway production that starred Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel.
The three-hour telecast airs Thursday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
