Yahoo TV (old)‘Dance Moms’: We Have Three Questions for Abby Lee Miller
Surprise: This summer's breakout reality TV star isn't from New Jersey… but she might be able to help you work on your fist-pumping technique.
Pittsburgh-based dance instructor Abby Lee Miller has been teaching kids to dance for decades, and her pull-no-punches teaching style and never-ending battles with the kids' moms are the focus of Lifetime's addictive new reality hit, "Dance Moms." And viewers are already calling for an encore: Strong ratings have earned the show a second-season pickup.
With the "Moms" season finale airing tonight, we got the chance to ask Miller three quick questions about her experience on the show. Here's what she had to say:
How do you feel about the way you've been portrayed on the show? Is it fair?
I think it's pretty realistic. However, you don't see what leads up to the fire when I correct the child. On camera, you don't know that I've already told them the same correction ten times previously. You just see the last time.

Do you have a good relationship with most of the kids' moms, or is it usually adversarial, like it is on the show?
I have amazing, respectful, wonderful customers who pay their bills on time, who drop their children off, who help out… but they just don't make good TV.

Reality TV is dance-crazy right now, with "Dancing With the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance." Do you watch any of these shows?
We're very proud that [Pittsburgh Steeler] Hines Ward won "Dancing With the Stars," and I had a girl on "So You Think You Can Dance" this season. Her name was Miranda Maleski, and she got cut way too soon.
The season finale of "Dance Moms" airs Wednesday, 10/5 at 10pm on Lifetime.
